What has Vroom, Vroom got to do with life on a farm. Not much really, except sanity. You see several years ago when my second son was in his mid-college years and came home one summer to work on the farm and worked an average of 8 hours per day every single day he was home, he said, 'NO MORE." But when he couldn't get an internship the next summer, back he came to work on the farm. But this time, my husband let an aching passion of his arise and he bought a 1100 Yamaha road bike. And before and after irrigating on work days, they would ride this and a friend's bike whenever possible, even sometimes carrying their irrigating boots on the back to the irrigation site.
Fast forward a half a decade. There are now 4 bikes in our garage. That first bike, a Harley-Davidson (our pairs bike), a 650 Yamaha on which I learned to ride and a big Yamaha that outruns everything else ('had' to have that one because it was 'a good deal' and now it isn't.) sigh
Anyway, Vroom, Vroom also sometimes represents running away from it all. And that is what we are doing this weekend. Last night we had the biggest hail storm either of us have ever seen in 50 years of life in Montana and it reaked havoc on our beautiful wheat crop. So today, I trudge through the day with a heavy heart but knowing God's will is best for us.
But we are going to run away this weekend. With other bikers. Family and friends. Actually 8 of us. To the grand town (just joking - look it up on a map) of Malta, Montana. It is on the Hyline of Montana, US Highway 2, actually, and has next to nothing to offer. But we are going there because one friend who was widowed last year and hails from Malta - well, she bought a bike and rides and she wants to bring her biker gang to her home town to show everyone the Biker Chick that she is.
At Sturgis last year
Actually at Spearfish Canyon, one of the prettiest places we've found
The plan is to also take in a play at the Fort Peck Theater, stay at the Fort Peck Hotel (less populated than Malta) and come home on Sunday via eastern Montana.
Believe it or not, I have lived in Montana my whole life and the entire region we are riding this weekend are parts I have never seen. I'm in charge of the cinammon snacks. Cinammon Twizzlers and Hot Tamales. Yum. Watch for pictures next week of this weekend's ride.
So, VROOM, VROOM.

You're the coolest Chick! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to go with you guys. It sounds like a ball. And, well the Hot Tamales are a really big draw! Have a blast Nadeen. Leave all that damage behind and come home refreshed.
ReplyDeleteoh geez, that sounds like a whole lot of fun ... i used to ride ... but gave it up when i became a mom ... sigh ... have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteOh, I bet your going to have fun. My husband has an old Triumph that he used to ride when he was single and we were first married. He still has it but it's been taken apart for years now. Don't know if he'll ever put it back together. Have a good time.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I hope you have a grand time on this trip!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip! So sorry about your wheat crop--I'd run away, too, if I were you. My dad used to go up to Montana every spring with his Weatherly (crop duster)and spray wheat crops up there. It's a big state, but wouldn't it be funny if you knew him?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the hail damage, that is some huge hail! Can't blame you for wanting an escape, and this sounds like a really fun trip. I'm afraid I'd have to drive a support vehicle, motorcycles scare the crap out of me :) Have a good time and looking forward to some beautiful pictures. Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Dee. You are always my hero! Your take-charge-of-your-own-joy attitude is such an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love my stops here each week. You make me think, make me laugh, make me aspire...
I'm so blessed we are friends!
A+
Ride safe.
